Joseph (Joe) Sheridan is a seasoned counterintelligence (CI) and human intelligence (HUMINT) subject matter expert with over 26 years of experience conducting and leading offensive CI operations, sensitive activities, and elite intelligence organizations. He is a certified CI Special Agent, Offensive Counterintelligence Operations (OFCO) Case Officer, and HUMINT Case Officer, with a career dedicated to advancing national-level intelligence capabilities across the CI, HUMINT, and Special Activities spectrum.
Mr. Sheridan currently serves as the Chief Operating Officer and a partner at IXN Solutions, where he brings deep operational insight and strategic leadership to the company’s counterintelligence-driven insider risk offerings.
Prior to joining the private sector, Mr. Sheridan served in the U.S. Army for more than 26 years, retiring at the rank of Colonel in 2025. Throughout his distinguished military career, he held a variety of global operational and leadership assignments in support of national intelligence objectives. His culminating roles included Brigade Commander of one of the Army’s premier Intelligence Special Mission Units and Director of Counterintelligence, HUMINT, and Sensitive Activities (J2X) for U.S. Special Operations Command (USSOCOM) in Tampa, Florida.
Mr. Sheridan has successfully commanded at the detachment, company, battalion, and brigade levels. As a senior intelligence operator, he led complex global missions, frequently coordinating with interagency, joint, and international partners. His operational excellence was recognized when he was selected as part of the Department of Defense’s Counterintelligence Team of the Year. He is also a combat veteran with deployments to Iraq, Afghanistan, Kuwait, and Guantanamo Bay, Cuba.
During his tenure as Brigade Commander, Mr. Sheridan oversaw the assessment, selection, training, and deployment of the Army’s most sensitive military and civilian personnel. He led a transformative redesign of the Army’s personnel security and protection methodology—an approach that has since been adopted across much of the Department of Defense.
His professional training includes completion of the Army CI Special Agent Course (CISAC), the Defense Intelligence Agency’s Advanced Foreign CI Training Course (AFCITC), and the National Interagency and Intergovernmental Course, among others.
Mr. Sheridan holds a Bachelor of Science in Political Science from West Virginia University and a master’s degree in Strategic Studies from the U.S. Army War College, where he graduated as a Distinguished Graduate.
